A poem written by me as an opener for an historical novel I started.
I slip from the light
Moving into shadows
Embracing fluid night
As I pass through the gallows

There hanging before me
And at every turn
Bodies swing in the breeze
Their final dance at Tyburn

A wasted life of regrets
Bodes nothing but ills
And all that sin begets
Comes to rest on the hills

With darkness around me
A shroud on my grave
My sins flash before me
Like chains to enslave

A walk on the dark side
A lifetime of sin
Leaves anger without
And hatred within

As I walk through the gallows,
This nightmarish dream;
A face wane and sallow
My body swings from the beam

Tyburn becomes hell
And life becomes base
Where even an angel
Can fall far from grace.
