A light hearted poem about a Christmas Eve service.
A community Christmas Eve concert event,
all were invited, each lady and gent.
The church decorated with garlands a glow,
greeted each guest who walked in from the snow.

"Oh there's Robert and Betty, Loretta and Jack,
and Jennie with her son, way off in the back!"
The bell ringer sounded, to start off the eve.
so everyone hushed, except for old Steve.

The lights were all dimmed as the choir began,
and a candle was lit by our robed Pastor Dan.
The crowd was now quiet expecting a treat,
till Billy mouthed off, started kicking his seat.

Papers were rustled as every one waited,
their programs reviewed, as the lights dimmed and faded.
The evening went on with distractions a few
with sneezes and coughs and a bump on my pew.

But everyone clapped at the end of the show,
as they threw on their coats and walked into the snow.
Fond memories cast, as old friends were greeted
it's just what the town folk and I for one needed.
