Poem concerning inner struggle
I do not wish to spend my latter days
In shallow mediocrity-disdain,
For never having written precious lays
As balm to sooth a forlorn lover's pain.
Nor will I pursue recognition, fame-
To be consumed by self-centered desire-
But rather that attribute I would tame
With quietness of mind, and make a liar
Of Thought's duplicity-the opposites
That breed but fear and enmity within
My mortal soul, tainting creative wit
With contradiction-ageless foe of men
Relentless in its quest to rob, confuse
That simple heart that seeks naught but its Muse!
