A paean to freedom
Color Us Lucky

(Written on the occasion of President George H. W. Bush's Funeral)

Color us lucky because our birth

Was in the grandest land on Earth.

Whose borders rest with stately ease

Between two mighty, sun-splashed seas.

Whose flag flies bravely high above

A people with undying love

For mankind's brightest, noblest aim:

That all be free, in freedom's name,

To live God's gift to you and me ...

The one we call sweet liberty.

Yes color us lucky, where'er we roam,

To have America for our home!
