"wake up," calls the sun. "stay with me," says the moon.
this time i saw faded coral hues from
the palette of the sunrise reflected on
the waking oceans, sea foam crawling
towards me like agitated hands reaching
out with all the energy they have before
dying again and again, every time they try
⠀⠀⠀
but i don't want to talk about the sunrises
i spent alone, looking at the sun emerging
and painting the sky and the waters with
its majestic colours — blinding yellows and
sickeningly sweet tinges of orange,
accompanied with touches of mauve
⠀⠀⠀
instead, i want to talk about the curtains
of the sunset, the right amount of purple
and flushed pink, deep enough to lure me
towards the sinking sun behind the mountains
but light enough to show me moon-hued
sunflower fields where poppies look
⠀⠀⠀
twice as red and violets look almost blue,
the same fields we held hands in the middle
of, but now it's all kind of getting lost and
smudged together, as if someone snatched
the perfect painting from my dreams and
threw it across the ocean
⠀⠀⠀
and so i'm left to watch the sunrise alone again
looking at the same palette of yellows and
oranges with touches of mauve, sea foam
coming for my lonely hands and the sun
beaming and interrupting the new dream
i'm already losing, again
