The disadvantage of being too sensitive.
My feelings once were like a
Glass Onion, fragile, layered
and cross-linked to brittleness.
I lacked confidence, felt inferior
and often told myself that
I’m a Loser.
I did not like that feeling,
I did not like having Rain,
above all on sunny days.
I built a wall around myself
which others could not
breech, with a bold sign:
Don’t Bother Me.
Yet I would think,
There’s a Place
for him or her,
for even the most
casual acquaintance,
but not for me.
I felt like a weed in summer,
without water, or like a dust
mote, flying far and wide
yet going nowhere.
It took time to be less fragile,
to not shatter at every
negative turn.
Indeed it did.
I could have continued
to cherish rainclouds
for sadness sake, for the
sake of maintaining my wall
and my unfruitful sensitivity.
But I found a better option,
a more productive path:
I’ll Follow the Sun,
is what I decided to do.
