Most Simple, Most Loved, Most Treasured
This poem is entered in "Shadows and Light Poetry Contest.

The Quilt Upstairs

Not loving "things"
...cherishing what they represent is all
Hesitant to part with or hide
a frayed and faded quilt

It may not be fancy or fine fabric
or what you hold dear
made with care by hands lost to time,
precious ladies to me

My choice to display, not pack away
preserving the past
With a touch of an edge transported
to Iowa and back

Grandmother on her farm
sewing each stitch by hand
Treasure each effort of faith
Simple quilt holds memories of my mother's roots, her family

Faded patterns embrace
a house and all it holds
missing my mother, aunts and grandma
Still have this quilt to hold on to

as time's curtain descends
take us home to rest on a quilt upstairs, in the arms of love
