When I go to greet the new neighbors, I only see eyes.
This is a story about the new neighbors;
I watched them move into Johnson’s old place.
When I went over to take them some pizza,
I saw their eyes yet no sign of a face.

I tried to stay calm, yet it was foreboding;
only eyes greeting me one April day.
Two eyes the mister and two eyes the misses;
I had the urge to make my getaway.

I struggled hard as I offered the pizza,
holding it out in the scope of green eyes.
All of a sudden the pizza was floating;
I felt the eeriness in me arise.

I had learned later that one of them took it,
using their hands which I just could not see.
In fact the eyes were the only thing showing;
this close encounter was getting to me.

Eyes sans a face is unnerving in April,
yet I admit it was still so sublime.
Even though awesome describes spring’s agenda,
faceless green eyes will unnerve me in time.

I did my best as a welcoming wagon,
smiling warmly although it was forced.
Later at home I sipped green tea with honey,
shivering rightly as my cold blood coursed.
