The love between a father and his daughter

She holds his hand tightly,
Looking up into his eyes,
She says, "Daddy, I love you."
He squeezes her hand and says,
"I love you too."
"Can you carry me?"
"You're too big for me to carry,
But I carry you in my heart every day."
"Where is your heart?"
He points to his chest,
"It's in here." "Is it a big heart?"
"Yes, it is. It's big enough to hold
All the love I have for you
And mommy."
Daddy, "Who gave you your heart?"
"God did. He gave you one too."
"Will my heart be as big as yours?"
"One day it will be.
You can fill it full of love too."
"Daddy did your daddy hold your hand
When you were my age?"
"Yes he did. He taught me all about love.
He was a wonderful daddy."
"Just like you?”
"What would you say
If we bought an ice-cream cone?"
"I'd like that."
Together they walk hand-in-hand.
A special kind of love,
Between a father and his child,
Took place that warm summer day.
A love that would endure a lifetime;
A memory no one, but no one,
Can take away.
