narrative poem
its really too dark to see the keys
but before I go out into the yard again
i'd like to think about it.
the grass, under my feet,
the changing of the batteries on the solar lights
just to visit my friends the weeds and night birds
requires due momentum
and I will go out
and the dog will follow
an empty headed moon before us
and say goodnight to the lawnchair
garden wall
patio pavement
broken umbrella
and greet my dreams
with stars freshly imprinted
on my eyelids.
