Poem about the hardship of growing old.
‘Cause one day,
They’re going to take away your keys and your sunlight and your freedom.
And for reasons beyond your knowing,
God will take
The lives of your friends and your spouse.

With nothing left,
They’ll take you from your home.
The place you built with your own hands.
The place you watched your children grow up in.
The place that you’ve lived for 50 years.

Your body will be fragile,
And you’ll have to lean on a walker to get around.
Even if you still have the heart,
To run around like a child.

Everything you used to do,
That made you feel grown up as a teen,
You can no longer do for yourself.

So for now,
I’m going to soak in life with everything I have.
Even more than I need to.
So when my life is at it’s end,
I’ll have some extra stored up.
In this body that is gracefully growing old.
