Ode to Barbie--and everything she represents
Gorgeous paragon of American femininity

Picket fences protect oases of green.
Curlers clack;
mowers whack;
cars rumble.

Test tubes promise wholesome living.
Gadgets gather;
fridges buzz;
vaccuums whir.

Television bathes families in evening light.
Double features flicker;
Atomic bombs cluster;
Space races rage.

Blonde/blue bitch

Cold war delivers worst shivers.
Shelters dug;
islands glow;
fear flows.

Smoke stacks belch forth putrid carbon.
Factories hum;
conveyer belts zip;
Chemicals drip.

Crooked leaders crush black masses.
Jim Crow cinches;
conquistadors remembered;
native genocide cherished.

Barbie,
silky layer of makeup
over pocked, warted face.
Yin remembered,
yang to follow.
