Opinion review of a song/video |
“I Gotta Feeling” by The Black Eyed Peas. I have heard this song many times on the radio while driving. I think it was intended to be a feel-good song. People getting paid and ready to party having a good time. But I never actually read the lyrics. When you don’t know or can’t understand the lyrics, we all tend to make up our own as we sing along. I know I am guilty of that. So, before I got too far into this, I thought I should at least read the lyrics after I watched the video. After reading the lyrics it occurred to me that whoever wrote this piece got stuck on repeat mode. The first 4 versus are nearly identical and later in the song those same versus return. That also happens with a few other versus. I like the music and song for the upbeat value of it, but now that I have taken the time to read all the lyrics, the song seems shallow. I have never seen the video before. I liked some of it and in places it seemed to make sense. I understand the green paint for the lines, “paint the town” for example. What I always fail to understand is why some people feel it necessary to show scenes displaying or hinting at sex. I know sex sells but why does it have to be their sexual preferences. I don’t care. Now that I have watched the video and read the lyrics, I still believe it was meant to be a feel-good song. I like the beat and it is playing in the background as I drive, that’s fine. This is a song/video I would not waste money on to buy. |
