Poem following the deaths of two much loved teachers
To Sir with love

This poem was inspired by the comments left on social media following the deaths of two local schoolteachers, Mr Sumner and Mr Saddler. They died within a few days of each other and these words could be said of either of them.

Sometimes strict and sometimes hard,
But always approachable and kind,
If you had a problem you could go to him,
And a listening ear you’d find.

He was such an inspiration,
He never had to yell,
He shaped a lot of people,
Spurred us to do well.

He gave us so much time,
In classroom and outside,
We had nothing but respect for him,
Our mentor and our guide.

So many of us benefited,
From his teaching and care,
Now the school bell has rung for the last time,
Time to rest . . . job well done, sir.
