A tribute to a long ago friend

Downhill Lift

My roommate collegial brought spice,
he seasoned bland winter with heights.
Michael dared me to ski
on the edge at top speed
down the slippery slopes all my life.

I got hooked on the high of the hill,
never minding an icy cold spill.
Happy hearts beat a song
when we're gliding along
over clouds that are frozen to thrill.

Lifted up, we rush down from above,
and it seems that we can’t get enough.
Though the years plague our knees
you will find Mike and me
carving turns through the snow that we love.
