How illness can affect perception
She watches the baby
Trying hard,
Searching her memories,
Attempting to remember

What he looked like
Is he, was he
The baby she so desperately
Loved but lost.

He could be
The one given away.
They’re giving him back,
He isn’t the one

But so close.
The decades
Now merging,
The past and present

Closing in on one another
In a confused mind.
A son and great grandson
Become one.
