Posting an old poem stirred by another Author here.
WINGS TOOK ME AWAY

I can still so well remember
Long ago when you were mine,
‘Tho the fire is but an ember
Dying in the mist of time.

Often comes an inspiration
To rekindle that old flame.
After years of separation,
In dreams I speak your name.

I think of that last evening,
The scent of your dark hair,
On the day that I was leaving,
‘Cause duty called me over there.

Tears fell like a waterfall,
As we took our last walk.
“Sand got in your eyes”,
Then it was just, goodbye talk.

“I love you and hate this pain”
Was the last I heard you say,
As I boarded the airplane,
Then its wings took me away.
