sending a message.
“I don’t believe you.” Clark said.
“Then don’t.” I said, nonchalantly.
“Now what?”
“Oh, I don’t know.”
Clark stared at me with anger in his eyes. I should have felt sorry for him. Instead, I felt nothing. I just wanted him to go away.
“Why?” Clark dared to ask.
I had no time to explain. I responded: “Why not?”
I heard him chuckle. What more could he do? I guess he never thought karma would ever come back to him. I felt happy to deliver the message.
To be the message...
“Is that all you have to say?” Clark demanded. I could tell he was getting annoyed with me.
Too bad!
“You actually did it. You cheated on me! Oh, you did good. I must admit it.” He said.
This made me laugh. I finally felt something: victory!
“Like I said, I am sorry for this.” I replied.
“And like I said I don’t believe you!” Clark snapped.
I stared at him for a moment before I responded.
“Tell me, did you feel sorry for what you did, when you cheated? Did you feel sorry for me? Or that you got caught?”
“Would you believe me if I told you all the above.”
“Ouch!” I said.
“I might as well take what is left of my dignity.” He said.
“Whatever allows you to sleep at night.”
Clark scoffed at my response.
“So it's really over?”
I stared at him for a moment.
“I don’t see us ever going back. It will never be the same.”
“I want us to try!”
“I don’t. I no longer see you the same.”
“You’re hurt, I understand.”
“HURT?!” I shouted. “You broke me! And you sticking around won't fix the situation, nor me!”
Clark looked down and realized that it was, indeed, over.
