American sports’ most and least - field goals made and missed - a poem.
The players gather
For scrimmages of force,
Plummeting to the baseline
Of satisfying kicks.

Let bygones be bygones;
A stomach for life;
Teams straddle the crowd
And share in a leaner drive.

Glowing in human decibels,
The past cruises here;
The total vision is sufficient;
And the goodness of a make
Warmly celebrated
At minimal, modest lengths.

The practical know-how
And rage have resurfaced.
And the dynamic lumbering
And crushing tackles resemble
Their timely aura yet again.
