Flash Fiction
Jill was looking out at the window.

Waiting for you feels like an eternity. The pain is like a ship trying to sail against a powerful storm. But our love will keep us going no matter what. I have counted the days when we would meet again. Oh, how much I adore you like no other.

When her husband Gary returned, she ran to the door and greeted him with a gigantic smile.

“It’s about time. What took you so long?”

Jill grabbed a bag that was in his hand and ran into the living room; and sat on the couch.

“Thanks so much. I've been waiting weeks for this day to come."

Jill pulled out a small tub of ice cream and dove into it as if it was her last meal. She held the container tight in her arms as if it was a newborn baby. Gary gave her a weird look as he watched his wife eat her ice cream with passion.

“Wow, you really do love that ice cream. Should I be jealous?”

“Yes. In fact, now’s the time to tell you that I am leaving you for this ice cream. Sorry.”

Jill looked down at her ice cream and whispered

"I love you."

She laughed while Gary walked out of the room.

“Thanks for the ice cream,” yelled Jill.

Jill continues to eat her ice cream and she thinks to herself; I love cheat day.
