When Darkness Overwhelms

Raindrops drumming on my pane
reverberate in my brain,
in a dark, dirge-like refrain
slowly driving me insane.
I feel my energy drain,
only loss and never gain,
leaving only silent pain.
I wait for the sun again,
splashing like a yellow stain,
a balm to help me attain
freedom from depression’s chains..
