The Sting

“They don’t suspect a thing.”

“Who?”

“The people over there!”

“Where?”

“Over there!”

“Those people?”

“Yes, those people!”

“Suspect what?”

“Haven’t you been listening to me?”

“I just got here.”

Sharon whipped around, “Who are you?”

“I’m James.”

“Where’s Alex?”

“I don’t know. Who’s Alex?”

“Alex, the guy who was standing there a minute ago.”

“I just got here, I didn’t see anybody, except you. What don’t they suspect?”

“Ah... who?”

“Those people over there.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Well, I bet Alex would, maybe I should go find him. Did I mention I was an undercover policeman?”

“What???”

“Just kidding. I work in the station. What’s going to happen to those people?”

“It already happened.”

“What?”

“I don’t even know you!”

“Oh, sorry! Tim.”

“Huh... OK, well it’s still none of your...

Suddenly there was a commotion from the group.

“My wallet’s gone!” “Ah! Mine too!” “My pocketbook’s been broken into!”

“Ah ha, I see what happened,” he said.

“I certainly don’t know what you mean, ah...”

“My name’s Tim, remember? Actually Tim Jones. Actually Officer Tim Jones.”

“I thought you said you weren’t a policeman!”

“Actually I said I worked in the station, the police station.”

“I have to go now.”

“Yes, here’s your ride.”

A police car drove up. “Thanks for holding her Tim,” the policeman in the car said, we have it all on tape from the store surveillance.”

Tim turned to the girl, “When you’re done with this, can I call you?”

“You still want to call me? I’m being arrested!”

“Everybody makes mistakes. People can change.”

“OK” she looked at him and smiled her best smile, “call me,”

Unfortunately, she wasn’t planning the same outcome that he was hoping for, and she also wasn’t planning on ever failing again.
