Reassurances from the front... An Art of Letter Writing Entry (Form: Prose Poetry)
A Letter Home

Hello Dad...

Nope, it’s not bad; I’m just writing you to say that what you read is some writer’s need to make headlines for the day. Afghanistan, the land of sand, isn’t any worse than, on its face, any other place suffering the human curse. Why we’re here really isn’t clear and that’s finally sunk in. We’re coming home since it finally known it’s a war we just can’t win.

More importantly, from what I see, I’m not going to disarm. Every day somewhere there’s a shooting there; it seems no one’s safe from harm. I find it strange, our roles rearranged, now it’s you who is in danger from an enemy who looks just like me. Could the world get any stranger? Somehow I feel we should make a deal and both stay on alert. Let’s make a pact until I get back that we both remain unhurt.

Somehow we’ve lost what it really costs to keep democracy. It’s up to each to go beyond their reach and challenge tyranny.

So, put your worry aside. We’ll take each day in stride until we see each other again. You stay strong and it won’t be long...

Until then,

Ken
