Borah Peak

The ghosts of Borah Peak
And Chicken Out Ridge
Still haunt me.

Oh beautiful Sawtooth mountains
Why can’t you leave me
Like I left you?

You belong to another past
That I wish to dust off my feet.

I am left with trail dirt
And the memory of ticks
That may or may not
Have burrowed into my skin.
