There is a black mountain in Kentucky.
There is a black mountain
In Kentucky they tell me,
Somewhere in the Blue Ridges maybe,
If they rear their pretty heads there.

In Kentucky they tell me,
There is more than the stereotype,
Mostly southern and country
Of simple folk living.

Somewhere in the Blue Ridges maybe,
Living a quiet country life
And wandering through the woods
Are the mountain people.

If they rear their pretty heads there,
I have yet to meet them
Because I am happy to stay
Here in the wilds of Maine.

With the Black Mountain
I can see out my kitchen window,
I am more than happy to dwell
And be northern and comfortable.
