I never asked anyone to the school dance.
The School Dance


I never asked anyone
To the weekly school dance.
It would have been a joy
To have you by my side.

Not always conforming
I belong everywhere
And I belong nowhere.
You deserve better than that.

There will be no congrats
As I enter alone and afraid.
No one is by my side.
I am here despite fear.


Soon I am dancing and
I do not care who is there.
My soul is in the dance.
I have danced ever since.

It would have been a joy
To have you by my side.
To dance at the school dance.
Yet even today I dance.
