Daniel's jealousy of his cousin, Cliff, evolved into murder.
Cliff Woodcliff sighed in relief, knowing Alysia was safe at the hospital. At the scene of the accident, he thought back on who wanted him dead. Chuckling without humor, “Well, they succeeded!”

Anger took control of him, but he had to calm down to think, to figure out who would do this to him and Alysia. His gut feeling told him who it could be, and thinking back on the enemies he’s made throughout the years, he knew it had to be his cousin, Daniel Woodcliff,. He was always jealous of me since they were children, but lately, he showed his jealousy even more when he married Alysia.

But Daniel loved Alysia, too, why would he do this to me when she was in the car? Nothing made sense! He felt trapped, because his human form was now at the morgue. No one can see me, which is a good thing, but I’m new at this, and not even sure if I can touch anything without passing right through any object. I’ve heard of ghost learning how, to knock object clear across the room, but that would take longer than what I have in mind.

Would my father be able to sense me, hopefully even hear me? I’ve got to find out, with me out of the picture, Daniel will get away with murder. I can’t let that happen.

He found his father in the library, and decided to give it a try… “Dad, can you hear me? It’s me, Cliff.”

His father looked up at him, puzzled. “Who’s there?”

Well, that’s promising! “Dad, it’s me, Cliff. I need your help.”

“Cliff, how come I can’t see you, what happened?”

“Somebody tried to kill me and Alysia, Dad! My guess is Daniel, but we have to make sure before we act. My brake lines in my car were cut, and without brakes, I hit a brick wall, killing me instantly. Alysia was in the car too, but she was airlifted to Cedarville Hospital.”

“Cliff, I can’t believe this! I love you, son, what will I do without you? If Daniel, your own cousin did this, he'll pay!”

“He’s been jealous of me, but me marrying Alysia put his jealousy over the top. I guess he decided this was the right moment, and acted on it.”

“I’ll talk with Jake Silverton, he’ll know what to do. He always took care of any messes you got in, and knowing this one isn’t your fault, I'll convince him to help me. First of all, explaining what happened to you will take some doing, but I'm a convincing fellow. I'll also talk with the police about the accident, take care of your funeral. This should put Daniel at ease, and hopefully he'll make a mistake. I better watch myself, too, because I’m not sure what he’s up to, not yet anyway, but I’m darn sure, if Jake and I put our heads together, we will find out one way or the other.”

“Thanks Dad, I felt so helpless in this state, being a ghost limits what I can do. My invisibility is the only good thing about this, I can spy on my enemies, and that is just what I will do. If it isn’t Daniel, I’ll check them all out and get back to you.”

“Good show, Cliff, we’ll get to the bottom of this. Nobody hurts my son and gets away with it.”

Cliff drifted over to Daniel’s house, and saw that he was talking on the phone. He drew closer to hear what he had to say, and heard why he caused this accident. First of all, he wanted Alysia, as he suspected, but he planned on getting closer to my father, but never gave the reason why; apparently, the other person knew, because it never came up again. I have all the time in the world, thanks to you, you double-crosser! “Who did he partner up with against your own kin?”

Trying to pace in his ghostly body made the act feel insignificant, so Cliff just stared daggers at his cousin, until he ended his conversation.

Daniel looked satisfied, which made Cliff want to punch him. “Playing with fire, cousin, can get you burned.”

Daniel grabbed the keys off the table, and walked out the door whistling. “I’ll follow you wherever you go, you bastard!”

When Cliff found out where Daniel was heading to the hospital, he knew the double-crossing idiot was going to see Elysia. Wanting to punch him once more, Cliff just decided to watch the phony act.

Well, my Alysia is alright, but watching Daniel be all sympathetic and comforting when he was the one who caused her being in the hospital - I don’t think I can watch this after all, do ghost puke?

He backed into hall feeling sad. I lost my best friend, my lover, my wife all in one mortal night. What a great life we could have had together! Cliff pictured beating Daniel to a pulp when knowing he was cooing and hugging his way into Alysia's good graces. Feeling better, he ran the names on who Daniel could be in cohorts with? “Just wait when Alysia finds out what a creep you are, then we’ll see, cousin.”

Who could it be, my best friend Mark Dalton? No, and I sure hope not, or I’d lost faith in the whole human race. Maybe it’s that rat Louis Mills, but he isn’t that smart. What about Alex Finley, one of dad's shareholders? He never liked me, and I have seen Daniel and Alex in restaurant, their heads together. When did they get so cozy? I was so busy making plans with Alysia that I never paid any attention to what was going on between those two. I better tell Dad what I came up with because it’s worth checking out, and the sooner we find out who cause my accident, the better.

Dad was with Jake, planning on how to trip up Daniel in his own game. I bent down and whispered the name of Alex Finley in my father’s ear, and he signaled that he heard. I stayed for a while, listening in on what they were planning, and smiled. That should do the trick. “Daniel, you're going to get what is due you, you double-crossing idiot!”

I went back to the hospital, liking for the first time, since the accident, the freedom of movement on being a ghost. I looked down on Alysia and whispered, "I love you!"

"I love you too, Cliff!" Surprised, he looked at Alysia.

"You can hear me?"

"When you love someone as much as I love you, I'm able to know when you are here. I wish that accident never happened!" Tears streamed down Alycia's cheeks.

"I overheard Daniel speaking to someone over the phone explaining how he cut my brake lines."

"Daniel did this? He just was here being all sympathetic." Alycia sniffed.

I know, I followed him, but couldn't stay and watch. I told Dad, and he will take care of it." Cliff crawled into bed, laying next to Alycia felt so right! He put his arm around her, loving the feel of her warmth against him. He didn't have any other place to go so he stayed with his beloved wife.

"I love you, and want you back with me!" Alycia choked out, tears falling like a waterfall.

"I do too, but Daniel wrecked out life together. Dad's setting a trap and he'll walk right into it.

When Daniel went to see Cliff's father, he was waiting for him with a deal. "My beloved son, Cliff, has been killed in a car accident. You and my son were close, so I want you to say the eulogy at his funeral."

"Me! Why me? Wouldn't it be more sufficient that you say the eulogy?" Daniel squirmed in front of John Woodcliff's stare.

"I am, but I want you to say a few words, too," John stared Daniel down, not being able to stifle his disgust when looking at his nephew, knowing he killed Cliff.

"Okay, if you w-want me to," Daniel thought to himself, It's as if he knows what I did!"

"Good, then it's all set! Be there at the funeral home at 5:00 PM."

Daniel arrived at the funeral home just in time to see the four police cars park towards the back. Why are the police here?

Alex Finley arrived, and walked up to Daniel. "What's with the police?"

"I'm not sure, but let's not call attention to ourselves!"

Clark watched Daniel and Alex walk into the funeral home. He followed them.

The funeral was beautiful, he loved what his dad said about him. But when Daniel walked up to do the eulogy, Clark followed.

Daniel looked over the crowd, and noticing all the police sitting in the back row, he stuttered his words. Clark decided to shove Daniel. Surprised, he watched him fall to the floor.

Daniel could barely get up, scared witless. His nervousness betrayed his actions. "Okay, I did it, I cut Clark's brake lines. Alex was in on it with me!"

The police arrested them both, and the funeral started again as if nothing happened. Afterwards, people comforted John. He could feel Clark beside him who whispered, "I was so angry, pushing Daniel was easy and it did the trick. He confessed! I'm going back to the hospital to be with Alysia."

Cliff slipped into bed with Alysia, put his arm around her, thinking he'll have to go towards the light soon. But right now, he just wanted to be with his beloved one last time.
