The symbol of our liberty
That lady in the harbor, the one we so admire,
she holds that torch above her head,
a torch with golden fire.

That lady in the harbor displays her shining light,
a beacon for the beaten down
who seek justice and right.

That lady in the harbor has welcomed all who seek
a shelter from the ruthless ones
who prey upon the weak.

That lady in the harbor was once a worthy shrine
for those who sought a better life
and left their past behind.

That lady in the harbor has tears now in her eyes.
She sees the helpless on our shores
and hears their mournful cries.

That lady in the harbor would like to hide her face
so she would not be witness to
our national disgrace.

That lady in the harbor has lost her holy glow.
The symbol of our liberty
has never laid so low.

That lady in the harbor is filled with hurt and shame.
She can no longer live up to
the spirit of her name.

That lady in the harbor might just as well be rust.
Just tear her down and break her up
and grind her into dust.
