The Broken Clock

There's no reason for me to cry,
I've done my time and I have no stake,
I'm a broken clock, the Lord knows why.

Soon comes the time for pumpkin pie,
I'll have a diabetic's share of the cake,
There's no reason for me to cry.

There's so much more we have to buy,
The rush makes my angina ache,
I'm a broken clock, the Lord knows why.

Yes, young girls make me wistfully sigh,
But I vow to make only my woman shake,
There's no reason for me to cry.

These later years I happily shun and defy,
But time is standing hard on the break,
I'm a broken clock, the Lord knows why.

I'll be thankful the day I eventually die,
For the sacrifice, only the Lord could make,
There's no reason for me to cry,
I'm a broken clock, the Lord knows why.
