Sometimes, the only way the world feels real is through pain.
Why is pain so delicious?
The sharp, unexpected bite
that loosens the world’s grip
on your ribcage.
The way your breath finally
comes easily as the lump in your throat
dissolves with every pulse.
How jagged, puffy skin
contrasts the vast expanse
of normalcy.
Seeing thick red blood
ooze
in a mesmerizing path.
Where the licking flames
of inflammation chase away
icy thoughts and emptiness.
Knowing the damaged skin
is a reminder of what
it’s like to feel.
But pain fades.
Your taste is over.
And now you are left
with the bland taste
of emptiness and despair.
