This is why I write.
Words descend from my soul,
reverberate through my brain
until I inscribe them
in black letters on a white page.

Line and stanza,
metaphor and simile,
rhythm and rhyme flow--
like waves of light--
from dendrite to the soma
and along the axon
to the dendrite1
of the next synapse.

It is the duality
of my human nature--
both matter and spirit
working in conjunction--
that helps me create poetry
and causes me
to write.
