To my husband
Happy 56 th Anniversary to my husband. 22nd December 1965

My beloved one,
To me you are like the roots of a tree,
Holding fast to our patch of the world,
Steadying it against the earth’s tremors.

You send a message that you’ll never roam,
Always be here to shelter me from a storm,
Protect me from the winds of misfortune
And send down your roots further into the earth.
