Sam Adams Reflects on Regrets

Sam Adams had just turned 66
And was in a contemplative mood
He wrote in journal
As he usually did
Every morning

The following words

I have so many regrets in life
So many things I have done
So many things I have yet to do

So many things
that I did wrong
So many people I wronged

So many times
I did the wrong thing
Because I was following orders

Or the law
But the law was evil
and people were harmed
By my actions

And so many places
I had not been

So many people
I could have loved
Could have befriended.

And in the end
I most regret
Not being true and faithful
With the love of my life

Meeting her was the greatest
Thing in my life
And the one thing
I never ever regrated.
