The Macho Blue Tit

Blue Tit fights his own reflection
An enemy to his nearby nest
He pecks his windowed self-projection
As if he were an evil pest

Are all men so dumb
To start a war with self
To fight until they succumb
Until they kill oneself

I turn away from the mirror
From all gleaming surfaces
My vision becomes clearer
As my true purpose resurfaces

My wife and daughter smile at me
As I walk into the room
These real people that I see
Their love shatters filtered doom

NOTES: The first reviewer of this poem did not know that a Blue Tit was a bird. So I thought I should clarify in the note. Basically, we have a nesting box on a Silver Birch Tree near my office window. Blue Tits are nesting in it. The male is quite territorial and guards the area against other Blue Tit males. Unfortunately, when the sun shines on the windows he sees his own reflection in it and thinks that it is an intruder and so he keeps flying at the window to attack this enemy Blue Tit. I used this in the poem as a metaphor for the roots of male violence.
