Winner of Writer's Cramp 220701
Summer enters
as spring's last days
entwine the season of sweat
to become a memory mirage
in the forlorn desert heat.

You enter the world
greeted by the sudden slap
of summer's hot wet towel
as if inflicted by
an ecstatic sadist.

You imagine a retreat
to the cooling waters
of rolling ocean waves
like a bronzed blonde surfer
speckled with sparkling droplets
each a silver prism
refracting the light of summer's sun
forever.
