Emmaline listens to a weird type of music and is teleported to an unknown universe.
What's this? I've never been to this place before. The last I checked, I was parked in an empty parking lot at three a.m., plugging in my headphones and listening to music. However, it was a type of music that I've never heard of before. The type of music had a chill electric sound. Everything had a synth sound to it. The drums, The keyboard. Even the vocals had a robotic sound to them. I didn't remember the decade it was from, but it did give an eighties feel. When did I put this song into my playlist?

I looked around me. An explosion of colors. Everywhere. Flying around me. Was I in some sort of dimension?

The next thing I noticed was a monkey juggling tennis balls. The next second, he was juggling...donuts? Could juggling donuts really be possible? As the monkey ate one of the donuts, he turned into an elephant.

The music continued playing, but my headphones and mp3 player were nowhere to be found. My car was gone, and I was nowhere near the empty, depressing parking lot. I walked around, though there was no walkway, or any sort of ground beneath my feet. I was basically floating at this point.

Where {was/i} I? Was I dreaming? Was I hallucinating? Maybe those chips I ate was messing with my vision.

I finally decided to call out. "Hello?"

"HELLO!" the same monkey jumped out at me. He looked more like a stuffed toy than anything. He was dressed in band attire with cymbals in his hands.

Whatever happened to the balls? Or the donuts?

"Um, h-hi." I backed away.

Noticing my nervousness, the monkey said, "Don't worry. I don't bite. I hug. Come here!"

Before I knew it, I was in the monkey's arms. And of course, he smelled like bananas.

As he pulled away, he introduced himself. "My name is Booberry Muffin. But you can call me 'BooBoo'. Or Muffin. Whichever you'd prefer. What's yours?"

"Cool, name! Here, you want some bananas?"

"Oh, no thank you."

"I insist." The bananas appeared into his hand, replacing the cymbals. Instead of just yellow bananas, there were red, pink, green, and black ones.

I hesitated.

"Come on!" the monkey screeched. "You know you want some!"

"Can you at least tell me where I am?"

"Oh. You're in El Dimension Del Disparate."

"Which means?" I raised my eyebrows.

"The Dimension of Nonsense. Nothing makes sense here. It's just filled with randomness."

"But how did I end up here?"

The monkey thought for a moment, then shrugged. "I don't know. It's not often that humans are transported here."

"Because the last I checked," I started, "I was in my car listening to music."

"Hm." BooBoo pondered for a second. "What did it sound like?"

"The same music that's playing right now."

The monkey thought again and nodded his head to the music. "Catchy."

"BooBoo!" I was angry but I forced myself not to laugh at the silly name.

"Sorry, where were we?"

"Where is the music coming from?"

He shrugged.

"How do I get out of here?"

"Well, to be honest with you, I have no idea. There's no specific way to get out of here. Some of the humans that were transported here were able to get out of here some way, but different ways."

"Then, how did they escape?"

"It's been forever ago. I don't know. I've been stuck here my entire life."

I looked down at his bananas. "Since anything can happen here, will those bananas transport me out of here?"

"Possibly. You want one now?"

I haven't eaten since this morning so...I reached for a pink banana and peeled the layer to cautiously eat it. Even though the music remained the same, the mood changed. What once floated around me were no longer a splash of colors, but giant pink hearts. Suddenly, I started feeling tingles all over my body. Then my heart started to pump.

"What's happening?" I looked to BooBoo who suddenly looked more attractive.

"You're in love." BooBoo changed into a tuxedo. "Care to dance?"

I looked around, panicking. Would I dare dance with a monkey?

"Come on," BooBoo said softly, his voice slowly getting deeper. "I don't bite."

Before I could respond, he pulled me close to him and we started to dance. He spun me around and caught me into his arms.

"Having fun?" he asked, looking into my eyes.

Again, I didn't speak as he pulled me back up and when he leaned in, he-

I got snapped out of my daze. I couldn't believe I was about to kiss a monkey. A stuffed monkey.

"Pick another banana."

Different colors this time: purple, orange, and aqua.

I chose the purple one and ate it.

A purple abstract background surrounded us. Then it felt like we were being pulled somewhere. We were getting sucked into a portal.

I grabbed ahold of BooBoo, which was no use. We were both pushed into the vortex which took us into another world. We were at...a beach? It didn't feel like a beach. It was sunny outside, but the temperature was cold.

"What are we doing at a beach?" I demanded.

"The portal took us here."

"And why is that?"

The monkey shrugged. "I don't know. It takes you different places. Sometimes, the moon. Sometimes, a store. Anywhere really."

"Okay, give me another banana. I just want to get out of here."

"The beach? Why?" BooBoo looked around the beautiful scenery.

"Well for one, it's freezing in here. Secondly, I'm already freaked out that I'm at an alternative universe."

He handed me a green banana.

We ended up at a green background. It looked like weirdly shaped puzzle pieces. For some reason, I started having questions forming in my mind and not just ones I've already had. What is the capital of Mexico? Why are there eight billion of us? Why won't the earth stop spinning All of the irrelevant questions forming in my mind.

"How do we get out of here?" I asked.

"What do you mean?" the monkey asked.

"Exactly what I mean?"

"This place makes you only talk in questions?"

"Are you serious?"

"Okay?" He handed me a multi-colored banana and I ate it quickly.

We were back to the color room and the same type of music was playing.

"Great. Now how do I get back home?"

"Again, I don't know."

I sighed. "You're not helping at all." I then called out into the air. "Hello? Somebody? Help!"

"It's just you and me, Emmaline," BooBoo said.

Ignoring him, I walked around, continuing to ask for help.

"Watch out for that button!"

"What but-" I stopped in my tracks and found a giant button before my feet. It had a pause logo on it. I looked back to BooBoo in confusion. "What does this button-"

"I don't know. Maybe press it to find out. Be careful, though. You'll never know what'll happen in the Dimension of Nonsense."

Cautiously, I pressed the button with my foot. But it only paused the song. I stomped on it again to allow the song to keep playing.

BooBoo approached me. "Maybe sing to the lyrics."

I looked to him. "What?"

"You heard me. Sing them."

"BooBoo, I don't even know this song!"

"Just pay attention to the lyrics. Trust me. You'll learn them quickly."

I listened to the lyrics intently and tried to catch up to them.

She gets on with life as a student,
She's an adorable kinda gal.
She likes playing computer games and watching movies.
She likes to contemplate chickens.
But when she starts to daydream,
Her mind turns straight to ducks.

Boom boom shake da boom-boom-boom!

What kind of lyrics were these? And why did they seem to be about me? Everything in these lyrics seemed to be about what I liked and what I did for a living.

I sang them repeatedly until I could catch the whole stanza of lyrics. Fortunately, I was able to recite them all correctly. After finishing the last line, I was transported back to the car. But the music was still playing. I took a glance at my mp3 player to see the song's title. "Emmaline", it read. The cover of it was of me holding the bananas of different colors. And the artist of the song was none other than Booberry "BooBoo" Muffin.

"So, you like the song?"

There he was sitting in my passenger's seat, biting a rotten banana this time.

Before I could react, he gave a wink and disappeared.

I had to be hallucinating for sure.
