July Heat

Across America red-lined districts
poor and non-white
go voiceless
in urban heat islands
concrete and cement jungles
devoid of trees and moisture.
You cannot breath, or wander shoeless
Rusty musical fans offer no respite
and rumors of open hydrants
evaporate in the air.
The sidewalks hiss,
"climate change is real".
