A place inherited is perhaps not what was expected.

Life turns many corners,
So much, so fast, so new.
A house inherited,
Curiosity grew.

Driving with excitement,
Wondering what they’ll see.
Chatting incessantly
About the legacy.

City grime far behind
Bright moonlight in the sky
Trees closed in around them
Fog's fingers pierced their eyes

Warnings were shared, ignored.
New life’s appeal too strong.
No such thing as hauntings
Of course they all were wrong.

Thoughts drifted as they drove.
To cautious words spoken.
But sharp, crawling tendrils
Wrapped souls until broken.

The family of four
Drove long into the night.
Nothing was found of them
When at last it grew light.

Stories are told of them,
Many others besides.
Down in a country house,
Is the place they reside.
