maudlin look at fate
The last bit of winter snow
that refuses to melt
The glistening awe inspiring crystals
Now crushed amidst the gravelly asphalt

A flower, once warm and vibrant
Blooming bright and fragrant
Now wilted on a broken stem
It's petals brown and sodden

The sounds of bitter angry words
In a once safe haven
Innocence now forced to feel
The ruin of childish giggles

Little victories, hope-filled starts
Full of fancy dreams
Decaying into a steady silence
Toward the anguish of defeat
