This poem was written for my Intro to Creative Writing class - my 1st poem
I abandoned my teddy bear in Santa Cruz
As I left, I felt him begging me to bring him
We drove in bumper-to-bumper traffic and listened to the choir of engines sing
I found new teddy bears to keep me company, so I don't need him anymore
Still, I heard his call
My father married someone new a few years later
The house was full of new people to talk to and play with
Still, I heard his call
I made 6 years' worth of memories with a new friend
She gave me love I never knew was possible
The call seems farther away
The doctor said she was getting better, but she still laid in bed
I made promises I wasn't sure I could keep
I can barely hear him anymore
My brother has joined the frontlines today
He wanted to escape the warzone in our living room
I can't hear his call anymore
The black sheep of the family ran away from the flock
He wanted to become the shepherd
There is a new call I hear
This time it is my own voice
While they have begun their own stories
It seems that I have gone right back to where I started
This time, as the abandoned teddy bear
