A poem written for my husband who is struggling with addiction.. and a lifetime of pain.
I look at you, and I see a painful past,
It's easy to say, the hurt will never last.

But only you know, the demons in your mind.
Like V H S, your life's on constant rewind.

And everyday, is a battle in your head.
A raging war, every time you go to bed.

When the nightmares, are haunting your every move.
Your actions deny, you have something to prove.

This monster is too big, to face all alone.
Stop dragging your feet, and trying to postpone.

How long do you plan, on playing the victim?
It's up to you, to get out of the system.

Life just isn't fair, in fact it's misleading.
We all have a hard enough time, just succeeding.

But this is your story, who can understand?
Sometimes in life, we all need a helping hand.

Still, our pasts, shouldn't ever define us.
Yet judgement, is around every corner, plus...

This world doesn't believe, in second chances.
Too many times, I've seen people's rude glances.

Starring you down, like some kind of criminal.
You went to prison, for the bare minimal.

Your mistakes, doesn't make you a bad person.
But the way you act, makes people uncertain.

And uncertainty, brings about confusion.
Which then, gives people some kind of illusion.

How you express yourself, does say a whole lot.
But a failure, that's something that you are not.

I see your potential, you are a good man.
But fear keeps you, from doing the best you can.

I know you're struggling, trying to let go.
But always remember, we reap what we sow.

A bad attitude, makes you appear ugly.
When the inner man, reflects you so smugly.

It isn't the man, in the mirror they see.
But it's the beast inside, trying to break free.

I get it, life hasn't treated you that fair.
And that can be, a heavy burden to bear.

But you don't, have to carry it by yourself.
Ask guidance, from the one and only Himself.

Jesus is the answer, you've been searching for.
Only He has the power, to open doors.

So next time you hear Him, knocking on your heart.
You should open it up, for a brand new start.

Let the master cleanse your soul, from deep within.
It's hard to move on, when you're living in sin.

Holding on, will only worsen your problems.
And making it, even harder to solve em'.

Today, is the day, you start living again.
Today is when, you become a better man.
