when COVID came to town
Aromas from the kitchen bring fond memories of olden days, when lilting laughter often rang throughout this house in merriment as children played. Too soon, the surging tide of time swept us all away to meet our destinies prescribed by fate.

Abruptly, COVID came and sapped the strength from Grandpa Gene. When my sister Flo and I tried to visit him in the hospital, the sign at the front entrance declared, "NO VISITORS ALLOWED," so he passed away in isolation, without any friends or family to comfort him.

Today, our family assembles in this house to share our grief and fond regard for the time we had with him, reflecting on the mysteries of life.
