A battle is fought against the rat who found his way into our home

chewed rubber door seal
droppings on the counter
entry point unknown

so the mission begins
Victor behind a purple door in the closet
cheese, a yellow blanket on the catch

Tomcat station against the pantry wall
a black cat embossed on the box
Bromethalin Bait Chunx ready to pounce

dangerous places no good choices
SNACK SNAP DEATH
or two-day passing by palatable nervous system disruptor

avoiding the spring-loaded kill bar
eating just under the lethal dose
days weeks months...

until even the one who thought glue traps inhumane
begins to reconsider
desperate for your end

but lucky you –
discovered in the washroom sink
startled and homely

you jumped into a a box
we dragged it to alley
you ran away

lucky us
