Freedom is a Tricky Thing...

America, the land we love,
the place where dreams come true.
A country won by freedom's fight!
A chance to start... anew.
A place where the most common soul
is promised equal rights.
A place where good hardworking ones
can reach their highest heights!

But things can run amiss as time
moves on and countries age.
We tend to want to change the rules
with brazen, glaring, rage.
For each of us has chosen what
it is that freedom means.
We shout it out with vengeful spite
behind our hidden screens.

We say things we would never say
if we met face to face.
Our arrogance to prove our point
sheds light on our disgrace.
Our views on what we see as truth
are built on what we're shown.
We idolize those we believe;
and thus, their seeds are sown.

Be right or wrong - our hate grows on;
it's building brick by brick.
A wall that grows with every stroke;
with every entered click.
And as we scream with fingers drawn,
like holsters for a gun;
we've set our sites upon ourselves!
Our neighbors - everyone.

The Cyber World's a scary place
for those who live in fear.
And there's a wealth of brutes to prey
on what YOU want to hear.
And even though we all want truth
to reign, to understand...
It's obvious, in cyberspace -
truth's lost in no man's land.

Our lives... our most sincerest lives
we live from day to day.
When we go out into the world
we all seem to convey
a sense of who we truly are
as we meet passersby.
We nod our heads and say hello -
without a battle cry.

We MUST remember who we were
and who we want to be.
We ALL are part of ONE great quest
America --- THE FREE!
But free for who? It's free for ALL!
Or freedom cannot ring.
We have the right as citizens
to choose which way we spring...

Our nation stands to lose itself
as squabbles turn to hate.
With careless fingers we've become
divisive and irate.
It's time to come back to the view
of standing side by side;
and leaving all that cyber crap
to those who've whined and lied.

We're EACH of us... Americans!
We share a special bond.
We cherish freedom, ALL OF US
with rights that correspond.
To disapprove of what YOU say...
I have that precious choice!
And I'll defend, 'till death, YOUR right
to speak with your own voice.
