Discovering new things after age 70
I never had tried spumoni
A new flavor ice cream to me,
The pistachio, chocolate, and rum
Just grabbed
My taste buds, setting them free.
It’s odd to be over seventy
Yet finding new tastes to try,
New places to visit, new songs
That tell not of the sweet by ‘n bye.
A young soul singing her heart out
An older heart feeling her pain,
Her joy or misfortune are captured
In repeated refrains.
So, trying spumoni or hearing a song
That speaks to me, even today -
Feeling just the way that I did
Decades ago,
When all was new and exciting -
My memories say it was so.
I will try new flavors of ice cream again
While hearing fresh songs, and my heart
Keeping time with the beat in the tune
Will go on.
