Mary Did You Know? by Tommee Profitt featuring Jordan Smith
I love the version of this song so much! Tommee Profitt is so talented in producing music that provides a cinematic sound. The orchestra does a great job of performing the song. And Jordan! Oh my gosh! His singing is amazing! He can hit those high notes naturally! I feel like some vocalists have that gift of singing high notes, higher than that. And others who don't have that gift try to work hard in achieving to hit those notes. That's one of the thoughts I've had while watching this video.
This song is hauntingly beautiful and asks some thought-provoking questions to the Virgin Mary. Obviously, she didn't know that her baby Boy was going to be all of these things and do all of these things until the angel Gabriel appeared to her and told her about the prophecy. I can't imagine going through the same thing: being pregnant as a virgin and giving birth to the Messiah. That must be elevating and terrifying at the same time.
I remember my sister singing the song a couple times in church. I also remember a few years ago that I was playing Mary and doing a monologue while strolling to the stage, and the song was playing in the background. The funny thing is my sister is singing the song again this year for the play I wrote for our church's Christmas program. I'm excited with how the whole thing will play out!
I will never forget this song. As with many others, it will always hold a special place in my heart.
