VISITING MOTHER

Various reasons why I love you dear Mother, one being, is you gave me my birthday
I have come here today to talk and laugh with you and sing a hymn or two and pray
Sitting here at your gravestone I try to recall a time when you weren't there for me
In this world we all need someone to love us unconditionally like you always did
Talking to you here is not where I wanted you to be, but now you have no more pain
I know for sure we all miss you so very much and the loneliness is so unbearable
Now I am walking through the cemetery searching each new headstone to find you
Good morning, Mother. did you go play bingo with the angels last night and win?

Maybe you were at a dance with St. Peter, shaking your wings till your halo fell off
Or maybe you went to God's yard sale or got invited to dinner with the 12 Disciples
That had to be an interesting time for you, especially if God, himself were at the table
How wonderful you were chosen to be taken home to God's Heaven forever to live
Evening now is near, and I once again find myself having to leave you here so alone
Reaching for your hand I can feel your tender touch, kissing it I must say goodbye now.
