A reflection on friends.
Song for the Introvert

Much of my life was spent
in collecting extraverts,
their flamboyance and openness
attractive to one as silent
and invisible as I’d trained myself.
I found my entertainment in watching
the antics of others
and knowing very well
what it was all about.
There was courage in this fire
and risk,
but also monumental pride
in self and confidence
overweening.

My collection of outgoing friends
has long gone and I am left,
as ever, wondering
what they saw in me.
