What great magic, this device.
I have the power in my hand;
it’s all in my control.
With just a simple finger twitch
I’ll swiftly reach my goal.

Oh, what great magic, this device,
this awesome tool I hold.
And I will not relinquish it.
It’s worth its weight in gold.

Well, some might say I don’t deserve
this power I possess.
(Okay, sometimes I run amok,
of that I must confess.)

But that is just pure jealousy
and envy on her part.
I claimed the use of this remote
right from the very start.

There was a time, so long ago,
when this did not exist.
You’d have to get up off the couch
and give the knob a twist.

But now I can sit on my butt
and watch my favorite shows.
(There have been times we’ve disagreed
and almost come to blows.)

As long as I can stay awake
that TV set is mine.
But I may have to UP the sound
to muffle out her whine.

I fear there might soon come a time
when my control will end.
I’ll waste away here on this couch,
no strength left to defend.

Then she will finally get her chance
and she won’t hesitate.
She’ll snatch this magic wand from me.
I’ll wake up but… too late.
