Poem about the end of winter
It is the time of year when thoughts of love
Inspires, not only callow youth, poets too.
It is not even spring, the skies above
Still dark. Yet clouds allow a glimpse of blue

Out of the darkness seeds send up green shoots,
Despite the season’s chill, showing contempt
Of that which would defeat. They send their roots
Deeper, wider, to foil the wind’s attempt.

Unfurling buds breathe in the rain-soaked earth.
Inspiration grows, bright hues revealing
Mother Nature at her best, giving birth,
As she bestows gifts for the earth’s healing.

Trees, bare-branched, awake after winters rest.
Fresh leaves emerge, after their sleep, refreshed.
